I saw Miracle at St. Anna last night (pretty amazing movie) and it used quite a few various cinematic techniques, effectively for that matter. I noticed, like CHildren of Men, much of the movie was through handheld camera, though only scenes involving the main characters. Seeing this done on the big screen really made it feel like I was a spectator to the actual event. Spike Lee also incorporated many racial injustices, a signature trait of his in his movies. Setting was also one of the key techniques used, as much of the movie is set in war, but specifically the main african american soldiers happenings in an italian town. The backgrounds and countrysides, even while amidst a grueling and realistic WWII, looked beautiful. The use of Italian/english speaking, much like spanglish from some of the characters, kept you interested throughout the movie, and the subtitles were quick and not drawn out very much. Lastly, like the 300 but not as gory, blood was used almost symbolically in the movie. When someone died or got shot, it looked real, and you felt the pain of the characters. I left the movie with some questions unanswered, so it didn't tie up all the loose ends like a classical hollywood narrative, but it was still an amazing movie.

Ok so last night there was this HUGE ASS FUCKER of a storm, hail and the works, and I slpet through my bus stop so I had to walk three blocks in it to my car. Yaaaaa shitty. Then I had to drive home in it. I have a big crack in my car window already, so I was worried that the rain would bust my window. It dididnt. What did happen was big ass trees were falling over onto the freeway and the lights were out. So yaaaa car accidents ftw. I literally drove 15 mph on the I-10. Lolzor.

Then this morning the orbit bus drive (who was verrrry nice, which was a sweet change) showed us a palm tree that was chopped in half by the wind that crashed into some poor guy's car. What a shitty thing to come home/wake up to!

I left the house at 620, got to bashas at southern and mcclintock, and got on.

Omg omg where is my math class? Oh, some nice guy is taking me there. How nice. Anyone still in north, read this: COLLEGE MATH IS WAY TOO FUCKIN EASY. My teacher gave us a pop quiz, to test our readiness. Bitch please I was born ready! I finished first, and played it cool while other kids tried to copy my answers. College is sick, know why? I have one class today, two tommorow, two on wednesay, and one on both thursday and friday. And ontop of all that, for each math class the professor already said he doesn't care if we don't come to some classes. And I have math on monday and friday AND ITS THE ONLY CLASS THAT DAY. Think like having mrs howard as your last class BEFORE lunch and she doesn't care if you don't come, she doesn't take roll. Boo yah.

And then, to make my day, the lovely katie west made her out of the blue debut and said HI to me. And if you're reading this katie, I thought you were pretty the LAST time I saw you. Now.... I just don't know what to say! I love school, I love life, and most importantly I love finally feeling happy enough to post on this goddamn journal!

    <lj:music>Woke Up Laughing - Robert palmer</lj:music>

From pineapple express I drove by the hospital where my dad was in critical condition almost 2 months ago, right during the IB tests... Is that why I messed up on my history exam and got a 3? I remember visiting him after every test and telling him about it because he gets off on all that knowledge stuff, and I was quite enthusiastic about my history tests. I wrote about Fidel Castro, so who could go wrong. Then thinking back over the entire school year, it doneed on me why I got a 5 on the Anthropology test and a 3 in History.

I made shit up.

I couldn't remember any specific names for history, so I successively referenced Fidel and his ? brother as "The Castro brothers and Che Guevara." And then I went on and on about the day of pigs and the Granma. Maybe if I wasn't incapacitated for 90% of every history class I would've done better. But who cares? Laughoutloud.
And in Anthro I made shit up too, but in Anthro that's acceptable and actually encouraged, because you can't keep a straight face and tell me that all those field scientists understand what the fuck the clicking Africans are saying.

On a side note, I am going to be renting more and more movies and practicing reviewing and critiquing them, and I'll be making a new LJ soon solely for that purpose. Would anyone actually read them? Sorry for the long post.

One of my friends once told me that the reason he always tries to be polite to everyone is because any random starnger you meet could be jesus, and there would be no way to know. What I don't get is if that is, was, or will ever be true why doesn't god just show himself to everyone. I know, I know, its about having faith and believing in him, but it's kind of hard to believe in something as big as a god when the only real proof you have is a book that's been translated thousands of times. Ever played a game at gradeschool parties or in the classroom, where one phrase is passed through all 20 some kids? Yeah, and to think that's all in the same language with a group small enough to fit in one room.

Now think about the same concept, but it starts in hebrew, is passed around entire continents, then is passed to greecians, then to the english and so on and so forth. Think anything might have been mistranslated? On top of that the original writers weren't holy men, they were just average guys that god and jesus had dictate/witness they're miracles. Wouldn't it be a bitch if they made it all up?

But if you're aiming to convince, try and feed me a pastor's favorite line? "What about the sky or the air? You belive in that don't you?". Of course I believe in the sky! And yes, that analogy MIGHT work if we weren't comparing the belief in a scientific matter, in which case you do not believe in it you still live happily yet as a dumbass, to the belief in an entity that, if you do not have faith, can plausibly damn your soul to hell for an eternity after death. Difference there? Nahhhhh.

But then even I ask myself, how did it all happen? Yeah, I believe in evolution (I even have a shirt with viva la evolucion), but how did those gases get placed on earth, and even moreso where the fuck did earth come from? Whoever made earth obviosusly fucked up 8 other times, as earth is the only inhabitable planet in our solar system. Whether it's god (possibly) or aliens (doubtful), I think we were put on earth for amusement. In the grand scale of our lives, everything we go through can be seen as amusing to someone else. It's like Sims: World Edition.

I bought Rock band for the 360. this game is officially addicting.

Tomas fianlly got a job, selling knives. It's legit, because the only clients he is permitted to sell to are people who reccomend him to their friends. So in no way can he be murdered or anything. *whew* Plus he gets to have whenever days off as long as he hits his sales goal and he gets paid by the hour, $16/hr. that's ridiculous. but anyways he cancelled one of his afternoon appointments just to keep playing. it was fun

I built two gazeeboes for my mom today. they are pretty damn cool. I'll put pics up tommorow once i finalize the 2nd one

Summer is fun
